AIR QUALITY MOLD TESTS
Air quality mold testing is a process that helps determine if mold spores are or are not present in the air inside a home or building. Mold can grow in damp, humid areas and may not always be visible, air quality testing cannot always reveal hidden issues. It will only let you know what spores are airborne. Here's an overview of how it works:
What is Air Quality Mold Testing?
Air quality mold testing involves collecting air samples from different parts of a home or building and analyzing them in a laboratory to detect mold spores. The goal is to measure the concentration of mold in the air and determine whether it exceeds safe levels. This is particularly important where mold is suspected to be a problem for the occupants health.
Why is Mold Testing Important?
-
Health Concerns: Mold spores can cause respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and even more serious health problems, especially for people with asthma, allergies, or weakened immune systems.
-
Prevention of Structural Damage: Mold can also damage the structure of a building by weakening walls, ceilings, and floors. Early detection helps prevent costly repairs.
-
Indoor Air Quality: Poor indoor air quality due to mold can make living or working conditions uncomfortable, leading to persistent musty odors and visible mold growth in extreme cases.
How is Air Quality Mold Testing Conducted?
-
Air Sampling: We use specialized equipment to collect air samples from Outside and Two inside. We use a pump that draws air through a ProLab Pro-15 air sampling cassette, trapping mold spores.
-
Temperature & Humidity: We use a handheld device to determine the temperature and humidity levels in each tested are. Mold grows best in warm humid environments.
-
Surface Sampling: No surface sampling is done with the Air Quality Mold Tests. This is only done with a Full Mold Test.
-
Laboratory Analysis: Once collected, the samples are sent to the lab where technicians analyze them to identify the type and concentration of mold spore
-
Report & Recommendations: The results are compared to outdoor mold levels to see if the indoor levels are significantly higher. We will provide a full report with recommendations and the lab results.
When Should You Consider Air Quality Mold Testing?
-
After water damage or a flood.
-
When there’s a musty odor but no visible mold.
-
If someone in the home has unexplained respiratory issues.
-
When buying or selling a home to ensure that the air quality is safe.
